The Stables – Kenilworth Castle 30-05-2025
Mr Mayor, Councillors, Citizens of Bourg-la-Reine and their hosts
As Chairman of the Twinning Association I should like to thank the Mayor of Kenilworth, Councillor
James Kennedy, for kindly hosting this Welcoming Reception for our visitors from our twin town,
Bourg-la-Reine.
The Twinning Agreement between Kenilworth and Bourg-la-Reine was signed a long time ago, in
1982, that is 43 years ago!
And this evening there are no fewer than 26 citizens of Bourg-la-Reine here with us, proof that our
Twinning is not dormant, but still flourishing and dynamic.
But the Twinning Agreement with Bourg-la-Reine involves more than citizen exchanges.
A partnership was signed last year between Kenilworth School and a prestigious school le Lycée
Lakanal. Students in year 9 have already exchanged letters and the schools are now looking into the
possibility of holding video conferences.
Also last year Bourg-la-Reine held a ‘mini-Olympiades’ between young athletes from their twin
towns, and Kenilworth was represented there by a team of Explorer Scouts.
I should also like to thank Kenilworth Town Council for their ongoing support of the Twinning
Association.
And a big thank you to the hosts, and to my committee members who have worked hard to put this
weekend’s programme together.
Merci
